I graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures from Ca' Foscari University, and founded Rapitrad 36 years ago: I started with a typewriter, and today work with all the technology the profession now offers. I've never stopped being inside the craft since: quotes, deadlines, difficult clients, glossaries built from scratch. I didn't start with a precise plan — I started by translating, and I learned everything else along the way.
Over time I also started building a network at European level: I was President of EUATC for four years and Vice President for another four, before becoming EUATC Ambassador at the EU. I am also President of Unilingue and one of the 12 members of LIND, the group of leading sector experts appointed directly by the European Commission to advise the Directorate-General for Translation.
During my professional career I have also been a speaker at ATA — the American Translators Association, of which I am a Corporate Member — and at most European associations representing translation companies and language service providers, giving me continuous exposure to different markets, professional models and language-industry realities.
I have spoken at numerous universities and institutions in Italy and abroad, including the Translating Europe Forum organised by the European Commission in Brussels, the Trieste School for Interpreters, Forlì (Bologna), IULM Milan, Ca' Foscari, and also Turin, Rome, Lecce, Parma, Padua, the Sorbonne in France, London Met in the UK, Ghent, Salamanca and Vienna.
Semiothica comes from there: not to run yet another theoretical course, but to share what I've learned in the field with those now entering the language profession, or with those already working in it who want to grow. I don't treat "translator" as the only label that fits: today, working with languages also means localisation, revision, terminology consulting, interpreting. Semiothica speaks to all of these profiles.
A conversation between colleagues, not a lecture from above.
Whether you have a question about a path or just want to see if it's a fit, I answer personally.
